Always remember "Safe driving for life"

There are several ways to improve your driving skills. The most obvious is to always drive within your own capabilities and not to be pushed by other people into exceeding your own skills. Should you wish to take further training to improve your skills there are three methods we can recommend.

Pass Plus

The Pass Plus scheme was instituted to provide training for newly qualified drivers in the ares not specifically covered in the syllabus for the driving test. It helps you to become a better driver with the ability to cope with more difficult driving situations. Completing the course successfully will entitle you to discounts on your car insurance with a number of established insurers.

The course involves six specially designed lessons to improve your skills in the following subject areas:-

Motorways
Dual Carriageways
Night Driving
Bad Weather Driving
Town Driving
Country Driving

Remember 1000 young lives are lost every year in motoring accidents. Don’t you be one of them.

For more information see the
Pass Plus Web Page.

ADVANCED SKILLS

After successfully passing your driving test you will then continue to develop your skills as a driver. It is estimated that most people do not achieve full planning and observational skills for about two years after passing the driving test. Remember this is the most dangerous period and as a newly qualified driver you are far more likely to be involved in an accident than an experienced driver. This is especially true for young drivers between the ages of 17-21 years old, who are six times more at risk of a fatal accident than other groups in the population

Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM). When you have achieved fluent skills in driving and wish to become an "Expert" the IAM run an advanced driving scheme, which culminates in an advanced driving test. The scheme is designed to develop the four areas of advanced driving which are Concentration, Observation, Anticipation and Planning" which leads to driving with emphasis on the attributes of "Safe, Systematic, Smooth and (control of) Speed. For further detailed information see the IAM Web Page.
